To Dust// Chasmal Fires

It’s Release day!

Today I’ll share this piece, the second of three I created for Ethereal Shroud’s new album Trisagion.

This one was also a part of “The Lost Years” ink series, still on-going, and like the other was created with some general direction from the band, and after hearing an early demo.

The First song off the album it’s bold aggressive and dealing with the all consuming-fires of hatred. It’s both the first demo I heard while working on these, and the longest track on the album at a whopping 27 minutes.

For me this piece was about despair, and horror with the world around us continuing to drift in the wrong direction - something that still seems to happen faster every day. There’s a lot of fury and anguish in the song, and yet passages of hope weave in and out. A monument to folly seemed like the best piece to accompany the song - a dread idol we hope to see crumble away.

Illusory// Discarnate

Today I can share this piece, the first of three I created for Ethereal Shroud for the first single from their forthcoming album Trisagion.

“Illusory” serves as the single art for “Discarnate” the second Track of the aforementioned album.  The ink painting was created last winter as a part of “The Lost Years” ink series, still on-going. 

The piece was created with direction from the band, and after hearing an early demo.

 The song this piece is tied to is powerful and shows off another side of the multifaceted- atmospheric black metal outfit: Etheral Shroud. I’ve been a fan of the band’s work since I stumbled upon the last release back in 15 when working nights at a former job.  Since then it’s been a pleasure working for and getting to know the band and hear this record evolve.

For me this piece was also about fragility, loneliness and failure - so much changed, that at times it seemed, and still seems that world really is falling down around us. Those castles and spires I always saw on the horizon seem to drift further away, leaving only ruin and regret.

Art Summary 2020!

Good Lord What a Year that was!

But we survived, and welcome to 2021!

Finally we can turn the page on this crazy year and move on to the next one. It was a hard one for all of us, from the pandemic, lockdowns and all the other insane things. My personal life has been up and down too, my family survived a freak flood, house-buying turmoil - including my exceptionally difficult realtor, and multiple move-ins and outs. It hasn’t been easy, and next year may not be the all clear we hope it to be, but I’m at least ready for something else.

I have regrets too, I all but abandoned my plans to produce original pieces, and my monotypes were not up to snuff this year. I had themes and plans I had to can because of volume and things in my personal life made comitting the time to work on them unviable. I never finished those "villain" pieces I began, I still have unfinished oils from 2015 which most likely will go back into storage for the move. This year was supposed to be the character Dugun's year, as he turned 12 in November, but that got taken from him too.

The promised CYOA died in it's sleep this year, as did a replacement for the potion theme, ref sheets for all my characters and a scheduling system.

And yet, good things still happened.

My Artwork was released as coverart for a digital music single, (and commissioned to do more for an album coming out in 2021). I bought a house, and I’ll be moving to live with my girlfriend Merrow in a few days. I never expected a year like this would be how I’d say goodbye to my family, hometown and state, but here we are.

I also really want to thank everyone for all their support - especially in this year of all years. Without all of you, there would be a whole lot less of my art!

Album Art for "Trisagion" by Ethereal Shroud

I can now announce that my artwork (One More Place we cannot go) will be featured on Ethereal Shroud's Forthcoming release titled “Trisagion".

The piece was originally part of a series of ink and wash paintings, reacting to the changes and craziness of 2020. Now it will be the cover for an atmospheric black metal album, by the very talented band "Ethereal Shroud".
